Fraternities, by definition, are about brotherhood and all the emotions related to this. Blood brothers are related by a common parent or parent, growing up together, living together all with shared experiences. Frat brothers are related also by shared experiences, starting from pledging/neophyte rites. This is especially relevant to “batch” mates, neophytes that endured the pledging rites together and got accepted together.

These are experiences that are common to ALL members of the frat and since, by tradition, pledging is very similar batch to batch. This insures that the experiences are common regardless of batch and therefore ALL members’ experiences are relatively the same. This common experience gives each frat member a sense of belonging, of security, and of good times. Also membership allows frat members to wear their frat colors and insignias as a form of advertising their membership to a frat with all the pride and security it comes with. Thus, I believe that greek sweatshirts and other fraternity apparel perform this necessary function regardless of the actual fraternity.

My daughter will  be taking her first communion next month, and thus, my husband and I were busy doing the necessary preparations for this special event.  We wanted everything to be perfect, from the food, decorations, and her communion dress.  We spent hours looking at a lot of communion dresses, before we finally saw the perfect dress for her, and of course, she also had to like the dress.

Looking at all those communion dresses, made me  remember the time when my daughter was asked to be a flower girl at my brother’s wedding.  The dress wasn’t the problem since all the flower girls will be wearing the same dress, however, my brother and sister-in-law didn’t know what dress to choose from all the flower girl dresses.  So, I had to choose the style and design of the flower girl dress they will use.  It took me a few weeks to finally select the perfect flower girl dress, but it was worth it.  I really believe that it takes time to choose the perfect dress for one of the most memorable occasions in our lives.

My mom asked me to go shopping with her, and since I had nothing better to do, I did.  After hours and hours of window shopping, we finally ate at our favorite restaurant, when I accidentally knocked over my glass of iced tea; my jeans were so wet and sticky that my mom had to buy me a pair of new jeans.

My father was busy fitting every tuxedo in his wardrobe, he was going to attend the wedding of his best friend, and being the best man, he wanted to be perfect for the job. And after hours of trying everything, he finally decided to just buy a new tuxedo. He also bought a new tuxedo shirt and tuxedo vest. And at the day of the wedding, my dad looked his best.

Ever since I took that flight to the US, it’s been two years since I last saw my family. It’s a little lonely when you’re away from your loved ones, but when you think about the financial assistance you’re able to provide them, I feel I sudden burst surge of energy to go on.  The loneliness really takes its toll during the Christmas season, but I’m so grateful about web cam and the internet, I get to see and talk to family face-to-face.

During the months of October and November, I start to collect items that I’ll be putting inside my Christmas package, like chocolates, canned good, house gadgets, and etc.  Anything that I think they might need back at home.  But today I’m heading to the mall to buy them their Christmas gifts, the perfect gifts for my parents are easy, cash. Aside from the jeans, we bought a denim jacket that will keep me warm in cold weather but stylish as well.  And for the  last store, we went to Gucci, and when I saw the prices I almost wanted to walk right out, but my cousin said that every girl should have at least one Gucci shoes in their wardrobe.  After  a while I found the pair of  Gucci shoes I liked, something I could wear even at school.  The first day of school after my make-over  was a success, boys were paying more attention to me unlike before.  And for the  first time  in my high school life, I felt like a  cool chick.
